The Perfectionist
There are only a few of these. It takes money, time, patience
and money. (I mention money twice,
because he’ll need
twice as much of that as he’ll need of time and patience.)
The Perfectionist is going to
be constantly upgrading his cellar.
He has no hesitation when it comes to “killing his children” (a
chapter on this topic follows
below) and trading out wines
that he’s grown out of.
One perfectionist is divesting
himself of Pinots in favor of red Burgundies. He’s already
sold off his entire collection
of Zinfandel and Merlot. The
Chardonnays can’t be far
behind.
He is very thorough, with
an accountant’s sharp-pencil
memory for figures. He knows
where every bottle is. The Perfectionist is the one who sometimes
points out typos in my inventory
report. He is building something
more than a wine collection;
he is building a monument.
