Read the Book The Stamp Collector The Stamp Collector is a guy who collects wine because it is a commodity. A commodity that is valued and traded, the subject of speculation in a constantly fluctuating market. He collects wine because he collects things. He could just as easily be collecting stamps or cars or coins or books or sports memorabilia (he often does collect those things, too). The Stamp Collector has an interest in wine, but it tends to have more to do with the price he paid, or the story that goes with the acquisition of the wine than the experience of drinking it. The Stamp Collector is obsessed with filling out verticals of different wines. He’ll buy off years that are known to be past their prime just to complete the string, with no intention of ever opening the bottle. It’s a stamp.
